BIOGRAPHY
James C. Kesterson has over 30 years of legal experience in intellectual property matters. He has held a series of positions as in-house counsel at a number of well-known companies, including high-level positions at The Singer Company and the Laitram Corporation. He also served as Vice President and Deputy General Patent Counsel at Texas Instruments.
For a number of years, Jim ran Texas Instruments patent prosecution activities, covering DSPs (Digital Signal Processors), DMD (Digital Micromirror Devices), Wireless, and Tiris. His substantial experience has also made him knowledgeable in a broad range of intellectual property matters and issues, including copyright and trademark matters and all types of patent and copyright litigation. Jims current practice focuses on patent prosecution planning and strategy, as well as patent opinion work.
Jim draws on the full range and depth of his experience when working with clients. He interfaces with in-house technical specialists and business executives to integrate the clients technological and legal objectives into a coordinated strategic plan. Jims efforts are directed towards providing his clients with the very best product possible. He strives to make each clients patent prosecution program as effective as possible from the outset so that unnecessary litigation is avoided.
Before entering law school, Jim was an engineer at Lockheed Electronic Corporation, North American Aviation, and for the United States Air Force. His technical expertise includes microprocessors, other semiconductor devices, electrical and electromechanical devices and processes, food processing machinery, optical communication systems, well logging systems, and flight simulators.
EDUCATION
Jim graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tennessee in 1959 and received his J.D. from the University of Houston in 1969.
MEMBERSHIPS
Jim is a member of the State Bars of Texas, New York, and Tennessee and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
