BIOGRAPHY
John D. Koetter focuses his efforts on patent prosecution and assists with licensing efforts. In particular, John assists his clients in drafting and prosecuting patent applications. In addition, John uses his engineering experience to assist with invalidity searches on adverse patents.
Prior to joining Slater & Matsil, John gained extensive experience in the full cycle of design, development, deployment, testing, and management of applications in the aerospace and aviation industries. While at Honeywell FM&T and FlightSafety, he designed and developed software for test systems of nuclear weapons programs, designed a web-based system for development and delivery of aviation certification exams, and assisted with designing a platform for streamlining the development of simulation-based aviation training. In addition to his experience in software engineering, John also has experience in computer architecture, computer hardware, electrical systems, and computer networking.
EDUCATION
John graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 2003. He received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Southern Methodist University's Dedman School of Law in 2012 where he was an Articles Editor on the SMU Science and Technology Law Review.
MEMBERSHIPS
John is a member of the State Bar of Texas and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of the Dallas Bar Association of Young Lawyers.
