BIOGRAPHY
Ira S. Matsil, one of the founders of the firm, focuses his practice on the technical aspects of patent portfolio management and strategy, including patent licensing, patent litigation support, and all phases of patent prosecution, including reexaminations and reissues. His practice also involves patent opinion work, including infringement and validity studies.
Ira's innate intellectual curiosity led him first to electrical engineering, then to the law. He worked at Texas Instruments as a lead engineer and program manager prior to attending law school. Ira worked in Texas Instruments legal department as a patent agent during law school and later as an attorney. At Texas Instruments, Ira was involved in semiconductor license negotiations and patent prosecution in numerous fields. Ira's technical expertise also includes electronic circuits, telecommunications, optics, and computer software and hardware.
Iras background at a Fortune 200 technology company allows him to fully appreciate his clients overall business needs and objectives. Using his electrical engineering experience, Ira helps his clients to reach their business goals by protecting and leveraging their intellectual property assets. His clients appreciate Iras in-depth understanding of their technology and his innovative approaches to their legal and business needs.
Ira routinely works with large corporate clients, both domestic and foreign, on their most complex and challenging intellectual property matters. He also works with growing companies to devise ways to develop their portfolios. This includes working with engineers, managers, and in-house attorneys to determine what can and should be protected.
Ira has been retained as a technical resource on patent infringement cases and has worked with litigation teams at law firms nationwide. In these matters, Ira assists with critically important, highly technical patent and technology issues.
EDUCATION
Ira graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1987, received a masters degree in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1992, and graduated magna cum laude from Southern Methodist Universitys Dedman School of Law in 1995.
